WREATH

Two of our favourite holiday decorations – baubles and wreaths – merge in this extra-festive creation by Millie Masterton

■ Anchor Organic Cotton (100% cotton 50g/125m), 1 ball of each: Red Dunes (0338), Jade (0430), Terracotta (1025), Blue Sky (1038), Snowy White (1331), Pistachio (3722)

■ Anchor Artiste Metallic (80% viscose, 20% metallised polyester, 25g/100m), 1 ball of Gold (0300)

■ A 2.5mm hook (US B/1 or C/2)

■ A 3.5mm hook (US E/4)

■ A polystyrene wreath, 25cm in diameter

■ 5 polystyrene balls, 5cm in diameter (optional)

■ Toy stuffing

■ 1.5m red satin-faced ribbon, 5cm wide

■ 2m gold ribbon, 6mm wide

■ Hot glue gun

■ Small Christmas ornaments

TENSION

18 sts and 12 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over half treble crochet using a 3.5mm hook, or size needed to obtain correct tension Rounds 1-4 of Baubles measures 5cm (2in) in diameter

MEASURE APPROXMENTS

Wreath measures approx 30x30cm (12x12in)

ABBREVIATIONS

surface crochet Position yarn on WS, insert hook from RS to WS, yrh and pull up a loop, pull through loop on hook, *insert hook back through to WS in direction you want the surface crochet to travel, yrh and pull up a loop, pull through loop on hook; rep from * as required

picot Ch3, ss in last ch from hook

NOTES

A Cover is worked first in rows and sewn around the Wreath.

Baubles and Stars are worked in rounds throughout.

You can use any colours in any order for the Baubles except Gold. Use Gold as indicated.

WREATH

COVER

Using a 3.5mm hook nd Blue Sky, ch30.

Row 1 Htr in third ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. [29 sts]

Rows 2-91 Ch2, (counts as htr throughout), htr in each st across, turn.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Wrap Cover over wreath and sew in place.

SPIRAL BAUBLES (MAKE 10)

PANEL (MAKE 2 PER BAUBLE)

You can use any 2 colours except Gold when working the Panels.

Using a 3.5mm hook and the first colour, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout, dc, htr, 2tr in loop, place live loop in marker, join any colour with a ss in magic loop, (dc, htr, 2tr) in loop. [8 sts]

Round 2 2tr in next 2 sts, place live loop on marker and pick up first colour, 2tr in next 4 sts. [12 sts]

Round 3 2tr in next 2 sts, place live loop on marker and pick up second colour, 2tr in next 7 sts, 2htr in next st, 2dc in next st, ss in next st [23 sts]

Round 4 Place live loop of first colour on hook, 2tr in next st, 2htr in next st, 2dc in next st, ss in next st, leaving rem sts unworked. [7 sts]

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Using a 2.5mm hook and Gold, surface crochet along the join between the colours to highlight the spiral.

TO JOIN

Place 2 Panels together with RS facing out.

Using a 2.5mm hook, join Gold in any st on both layers and lightly stuff as you join.

Round 1 Ch1, (working through both layers) (dc in next st, 2dc in next st) 14 times [42 sts]

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Tie a piece of gold ribbon in a bow through the side edge of piece.
