Letter of the week
Don’t toss those pumpkin seeds
I WAS delighted to read Melanie Johnson’s recipe on pumpkin risotto—and even more delighted to cook and eat it (Kitchen garden cook, October 25).
In the recipe, she says that you can dispose of the pumpkin seeds, but I would recommend roasting them. We made two varieties—one with salt, pepper and herbs and the other with cinnamon. A great snack.

YOUR notes on place names led me to think about a few of the villages we have). Wy-dit-Joli-Village instantly jumps to mind. ‘Wy’ comes from the Latin that means village, but the suffix appears to have been added afterwards when Henry IV passed through with a hunting party and exclaimed: ‘Ah, village.’ (Oh, what a pretty village.) Less clear in its origins (and much less fortunate) are the inhabitants of the neighbouring village of Enfers (Hell).
