Quartet of late arrivals make it a lucky 13 at GCRA auction

FOUR additional name plates have been added to Great Central's December 2 auction, bringing to 13 the line-up in this category. As reported in last month's column, the early declared runners comprised nine LNWR, GCR, GWR, SR and LNER plates, and these have now been joined by two further examples from the SR, one more from the LNER, and a Britannia plate representing the Standard era.

The Southern Railway additions are Wellington from Schools 4-4-0 No. 30902 and Wadebridge with Cornwall badge and scroll from West Country class Pacific No. 34007, that from the LNER Loch Morar from K2 class 2-6-0 No. 61781, while the ‘Brit’ is Flying Dutchman from No. 70018

No. 30902 was built at Eastleigh in April 1930 and withdrawn from the London shed of Nine Elms (70A) in December 1962. No. 34007 was outshopped by Brighton in August 1945 and withdrawn from Salisbury (70E) in October 1965, No. 61781 emerged from the Leeds works of Kitson & Co in July 1921 and ended its days at Eastfield, Glasgow (65A) in December 1958, and No. 70018 was a June 1951 Crewe product that was withdrawn from Carlisle
