WEST Coast Railways’ ‘The Jacobite’ season has ended on a positive note, despite an interruption by the Office of Rail and Road at the start of the peak period.
As reported in issue 309, the ORR imposed a prohibition notice on the West Highland Extension daily summer service, a plank of the local tourist economy, on July 15 – six days after ORR inspectors found issues with the hinged doors on the BR Mk.1 carriages. A second ORR inspection of proposed safety arrangements for ‘The Jacobite’ led to the issue of a temporary exemption certificate.
