If you love large power output level meters, you’re going to simply adore the one inset into the beautiful, glossy, black methacrylate front panel of the Advance Paris X-A220 Evo mono power amplifier, because it’s by far and away the largest one we’ve ever seen. And as it’s a mono design, you’ll need two of them for stereo — so that’s two super-huge meters to love.
You will have no problem seeing the meters either as they’re bright — very bright. In fact, they might even be too bright, even at their ‘Normal’ brightness setting, so luckily there is also an ‘Off’ setting that allows the meters to almost disappear. We say ‘almost’ because you will still be able to see the red indicator needles dancing in concert with the changes in the volume of whatever music you’re listening to; you just won’t know what those volume levels actually are in terms of watts or decibels, about which more later…
X-A220 EVO MONO POWER AMPLIFIER
As its name might suggest, the X-A220 is rated with a power output of 220 watts into 8 ohms. However, whereas one might imagine the power output into 4 ohms would double (or nearly double) in accordance with Ohm’s law, Advance Paris rates the X-A220’s output into the halved impedance as just 350 watts. This, in turn, might leave you to wonder whether the output stage is Class D: it is
