Packards, Duesenbergs, and more at The Bahre Collection

Just once a year, the doors to a garage in a small Maine town swing open to give spectators an opportunity to enjoy an automobile collection that rivals some of the world’s finest museums. Lined up in rows are Duesenbergs, Packards, and other outstanding classics, some of which have won trophies at Pebble Beach and Amelia Island.

The collection was assembled by the late Bob Bahre, a businessman, developer, and auto-racing entrepreneur. Housed at the South Paris, Maine, birthplace of Hannibal Hamlin, Abraham Lincoln’s first vice president, the one-day opening raises funds for the Hamlin Library & Museum, a small public library and local history museum.

The opportunity to tour The Bahre Collection has long been the centerpiece of the town’s Founder’s Day celebrations, which last year were held on July 15. More
