It started out as a normal Tuesday for me – up at 6:30am to get the girls ready for school and a check of the school Whatsapp groups to see if I’d missed any memos about special activities for that day – a usual occurrence! Quick breakfast, a few issues around getting shoes on, school drop-off and then on to work.
I was just enjoying the first sip of my morning coffee when I got the call… it was GM’s women’s golf editor Alison Root asking if I could interview Georgia Hall that afternoon. ‘Eeeeerrrrrr can I?’ I thought. ‘Ummmm okay, I’ll do it!’ came the reply. Two-and-a-half hours later I was at Bramshaw Golf Club, sat across from the legend herself, Georgia. She was busy finishing off a photoshoot for her new clothing sponsor, Rohnisch.
Georgia’s meteoric rise from being a top female amateur to not only making it on tour but winning a Major – the AIG Women’s Open no less – is what makes her the golfing idol she is to so many juniors. Having played high-level amateur golf myself, I couldn’t wait to sit down and ask Georgia about her amateur days, her experiences of what it takes to transition to the elite pro level, her mindset when playing under pressure and, of course, what’s next in her golfing journey...
