NPOs battle without subsidies

NON-PROFIT organisations (NPOs) funded by the Department of Social Development in KZN could face closure and others are struggling to make ends meet due to the non-payment of their government subsidies.

Some are already in the red, unable to pay for water, electricity and food.

This week, several NPOs said their battle to get the subsidies paid had been going on since December last year.

The subsidies are paid in arrears, and non-payment has plunged
