Paper, ink and vision

In 1977, 23-year-old Steve Stanford sent a speculative letter to Street Rodder magazine from his home in St. Louis, Missouri. It caught the attention of the late Pat Ganahl as, not only the letter, but also the envelope it was posted in, had been personalised with Steve’s unique automotive art.

“That letter led to my first published ‘Sketchpad’ feature,” remembers Steve. “I wasn’t even a California resident at the time, but the encouragement Pat gave me regarding my artistic efforts helped to change my life and try moving to LA, to see what would happen.
