“Do you know why Georgia is so beautiful?” Viktoria asked with a sweep of her hand, gesturing to the mountains around us. “It all began when God was creating the world,” she continued, clearly revelling in having an audience. “You see, when he was assigning all the people of the world their respective lands, we Georgians were busy drinking and feasting (something we can personally confirm they still love to do), so we missed our allocation.
“We went to see God to tell him we had been toasting his health, and asked him to join us. He had such a good time at our supra (traditional feast) that he gave us the land he had been saving for himself. And so we ended up with the most beautiful part of the world.”
