Mini York Hall

ALLOA

NOVEMBER 3

WHOLE SHOW

PROFESSIONAL boxing returned to Alloa Town Hall for the first time in 90 years. A stunning venue, which had officials dubbing it a ‘mini York Hall’, with an electric atmosphere to match.

In the main became the first Scottish champion to hail from Inverness, defeating Dundee’s in a thrilling fight. Charlie started well, working behind the jab and it wasn’t long before the contest heated up. The undefeated pair showed no interest in clinching, sharing success while they fought in the pocket, but it was Stewart’s punches that were proving more telling. By the end of the fifth, Doig returned to his corner with cuts forming above his eyes, but he responded well as Stewart started to slow. Any fatigue was short-lived, however, as ‘The Highland Warrior’ came out aggressively in the seventh and caught up with Doig – and his wounds. With Charlie’s left eye and face bloodied, referee Kevin McIntyre decided to end things at 1-31 of the round.
