SAAB 900 TURBO (1978-1994)

Remarkably, production of the first-generation ‘OG’ Saab 900 spanned three decades until it ended in 1994 – a longevity that underlines its versatile nature and overall appeal. The 900 was a compact executive that built on the success of the 99, but it was the Turbo that really got upwardly mobile ’80s buyers looking for a slice of sturdy Swedish class.

The groundwork had already been laid by the 99 Turbo, of which more than 10,000 were sold during a relatively short production run. A boosted 900 was therefore inevitable, and was part of the range when it was first introduced in 1978 for the 1979 model year. Initially, the 900 was available as a three or five-door ‘Combi Coupe’ hatchback, with four and two-door saloons following in 1980 and 1984
