Bonnet not secure

I am having some issues with the bonnet lock on my 1978 Mini. I have fitted a new bonnet after something fell on the original and dented it. The fit of the new bonnet is good – quite a bit better than the original, but I am now finding that the bonnet will not stay latched. It actually opens and shuts okay, but if I push it down slightly or move it sideways a little after it has latched, the bonnet pops open again.
