How Dolphin Moms Talk to Their Kids
We don’t always know what dolphins are saying. But we know these marine mammals like to communicate a lot. Squeaks, whistles, clicks: They’re total chatterboxes. Now scientists have discovered that mom dolphins change their voices when they’re talking to their babies. In this way, they’re like human moms.
Scientists studied wild dolphins around Florida over many years. Their research included recording the whistles of mother dolphins and their calves. They also recorded some of the same mothers when their calves weren’t nearby.
