Woman's Day Magazine NZ

Kia ora!

’ve said before that Toni Street is the nicest woman in showbiz – and she still is! It’s alwaysand so special to help celebrate her milestone 40th birthday (see page 10). But rather than repeat past editorials, I thought I’d turn my attention to another famous face in this issue, Dr Siouxsie Wiles. It’s so rare that we get to feature a scientist in the mag because they’re often rather publicityshy. However, Siouxsie knows stepping into the spotlight is a vital part of communicating the latest discoveries – something that proved so vital and comforting during the early days of the pandemic – and she refuses to be deterred by death threats and vile insults from conspiracy theorists and trolls. We saw so much of Siouxsie during lockdown, we might think we know a lot about her, but writer Nicky Pellegrino’s story on page 26 shines new light on the marvellous microbiologist and makes me admire her even more. Enjoy the mag and have a great week.
