On reading Don Smith’s fine article on the Berlin Airlift (“Miracle From the Air,” Summer 2023), I can’t help but reflect on how things might have turned out had America and her Western allies taken a stronger stance against the Soviet land blockade of Berlin in 1948. There can be nothing but praise for the pilots and crews involved in the airlift for their dedication, sacrifice and professionalism, especially under such trying conditions.
