Bookworm

I am essentially a painter of still life, inspired by the classic subject matter of this genre: bottles, lemons, bowls, textiles, packets and things to hand that are part of my everyday life. My favourite painters are Giorgio Morandi, Gwen John, Jean Siméon Chardin and Édouard Manet. Each was a master of still life, and I especially enjoy the sense of intimacy in their paintings. They worked with a limited, muted palate, which I find very natural and relaxing to look at, not that I own any!

Recently, I have become fixated with books. They have become my favourite subject to paint. I read and own a lot, and I began to consider them as things to paint
