A BRIEF HISTORY OF RIDING NOWHERE

Would it surprise you to hear that Zwift is less than 10 years old? It was founded in 2014, but has become so synonymous with our indoor training experience that for many it’s hard to remember what it was like before Watopia’s colourful landscapes first appeared.

That’s perhaps unsurprising, as the experience of concentrating intensely on the bricks in the garage wall while suffering through a session of VO2 max intervals was always going to be an entirely forgettable experience.

But next time you’re climbing Alpe du Zwift in a group of your best virtual buddies, Ride Ons and XP points bouncing across the screen, along with a real-time read-out of your average power for each kilometre climbed, spare a moment to consider exactly how we all got here.
