Rory Flyn’s grandparents would be proud. The Skye croft they once owned and tended long ago is thriving once again at the heart of family life. And it’s all down to the vision and hard work of their grandson, who has designed and built a stunning single-storey home there on land that had lain empty for decades.

“My grandparents had a croft at Breakish, not far from Broadford,” says Rory. “It had been in the family since the 1800s, but over the years our relatives on the island dwindled and eventually there was no one to care for it, and it lay unused for more than 30 years.”

Rory, who grew up in BeaulyNo return to the Highlands and Islands, it was too good an opportunity to turn down.
