INTERIORS
You know what they say about Scotland: once you’ve lived here, there’s no going back You can traverse the globe and find warmer climes to call home, but the misty lochs and craggy mountains will forever be calling to you. You’ll long for our cities steeped in history, dream of the blooming heather, and find yourself peeking into every caff in the hope of finding a tattie scone on the menu. A proper Scottish breakfast might not be the main reason the American owners of this house found themselves back in Scotland after a lengthy spell away, but it no doubt helped. As did an existing relationship with Edinburgh-based interior designer Ian Smith. They knew their new home would be in a familiar city, with a familiar feel.
“I metbut had to return to the States, by way of a few years in Beijing. “They made their way back to Edinburgh because their kids wanted to be here,” smiles the designer. Their new home is a few streets away from Heriot Row, and just like their old place it is a large Georgian townhouse spread over three floors. The rooms are generous, and the layout has been finetuned for this family of five.
