We have reached a point in our history where, perhaps without us really noticing, we have built vast DNA databases. In so many ways, this is a good thing. As millions of us have sent vials of spit to companies such as Ancestry (ancestry.co.uk) and 23andMe (23andme.com), we have collectively learnt more than we could ever once have expected about our extended families.
