Last month I introduced you to this photograph (below) of a bright pot of flowers placed in front of turquoise shutters, taken on holiday in Italy, and I discussed the various options open to you for transferring the image. I improved on the image by the addition of a different flower (image found on Pixabay, right). This month, I will take you step by step through the painting of the pretty scene.

There are many ways and styles of painting. This demonstration shows one of the most basic ones practised by classical painters. The overall idea is to make a warm brown underpainting then layer colours over it. Warm brown warms up the surface, and colours become more natural looking as you paint over it.
