Pound for pound

Within minutes of being introduced, me and Rob, then 20, were cackling with laughter.

It was December 1999 and we were at a friend’s 21st. Rob was a larger-than-life character, and I don’t just mean his personality.

Yet while he wasn’t slim, he was gorgeous, with kind eyes.

As we glugged beers and teased each other with flirty banter, I knew he was someone special.

We became an item and I soon learned that Rob’s big passion was food.

At the time, he worked in catering and whipped up amazing creamy curries, delicious cheesy pastas.

Only, I couldn’t cook.

Struggled to even rustle up meat and two veg.
