MORE than 26 years after it was stopped for overhaul, the Deltic Preservation Society’s No. D9015 (55015) Tulyar has been reunited with its bogies and power units at Barrow Hill.
The Deltic, which had been on stands for almost 10 years, received its bogies on August 29, and this enabled the locomotive to be moved out of the DPS depot a few days later for the first time since 2013.
On September 12, two power units were installed in the locomotive, one of which now fitted to Tulyar was originally in the locomotive when new. This engine most recently saw use in No. D9009 (55009) Alycidon but was removed for the fitting of an overhauled generator when that locomotive failed in 2019. The other power unit, which also last ran in D9009 (back in 2003) has also received an overhauled generator. Since then, work has been concentrated on connecting the power units up, and on September 16, one of the units was filled with coolant. The DPS is confident that it will be able to start up the locomotive within the next few weeks.
The overhaul of the Deltic has taken and 55019.
