In the postwar period, Thomasville became known for its thriving furniture industry and commemorated it here in the center of town in September 1922, with a 13-foot pine replica of a Duncan Phyfe chair that stood until 1936. The current 30-foot-tall replica was built of steel and concrete in 1950 by Thomasville Furniture Industries.
