HAROLD BUDD
The Pavilion Of Dreams
OBSCURE, 1978
Written over the course of six years while Budd was lecturing at the California Institute For The – recorded quickly in London and released on Brian Eno’s Obscure label – is a window onto the composer’s early adventures in classical minimalism. “Bismillahi ‘Rrahman ‘Rrahim”, featuring languid alto saxophone from Marion Brown, demonstrates Budd’s early debt to jazz, while the magical “Juno” shows the genesis of his distinct “soft pedal” piano style.
