Traditionally, the choice of shutter speed was decided by the reciprocal rule (shutter speed is ‘1’ over the focal length, so 1/50 sec for a 50mm lens). This changed with in-bodyof five shots at a range of shutter speeds from 1/60 sec going down to one second. With zooms, shoot at both ends of the focal length range. The subject could be a sheet of newspaper on the wall or a bookcase; anything with sharp edges that will show up any camera shake. Appraising the results will give a good indication of how slow you can go with different lenses.
