Dark Side of Comedy

The life, laughs and tragic loss of Robin Williams take center stage in a profile of the troubled funnyman that’s both celebration and and subsequent cinematic stardom, the hour is filled with archival stand-up footage and memories from friends and fellow comics, such as Howie Mandel and Dave Coulier. “Whatever gratification Robin didn’t get in life, he got onstage,” recalls the Oscar winner’s Juilliard pal Stanley Wilson. “If he was sad, it would help change his mood.… [He] got to go to clubs and work that s--t out in front of people.” Williams battled alcoholism and, unaware he was suffering from Lewy body dementia, died by suicide in 2014.
