Nik Collection 6.3 highlights and new features part 1: Corrections and enhancements

In this two-part article, we’ll take an in-depth look at Nik Collection 6.3, its highlights and new features and the tools it offers to today’s photographers. We’ll look first at Nik 6 Dfine and Nik 6 Sharpener, just updated in Nik Collection 6.3 line with the rest of the suite, and then Nik 6 Perspective and Nik 6 Viveza.

The Nik Collection is perhaps best known for its ‘creative’ plug-ins, which we’ll look at in part 2, but in this first instalment we’re examining its ‘corrective’ plug-ins, which are sometimes overlooked but can be extremely useful.

Nik 6 Dfine

Nik 6 Dfine is a noise-reduction plug-in that has rather been left behind by the latest raw/ AI denoising tools, but could still be useful for enhancing JPEGs from older, noisier cameras. It’s certainly effective at removing noise but cannot recreate or replace missing fine detail and textures in the same way as newer processes. This does mean that you have to balance noise reduction
