The London Midland and Scottish railway built several Travelling Post Office (TPO) coaches for attachment to regular passenger trains and also in dedicated mail trains with attached stowage coaches. Many of these survived into BR usage before being replaced by purpose-built Mk. 1 mail coaches.
The basis for this model is the OO gauge Hornby LMS TPO coach. This is based on the 57ft Stanier LMS coaches that Hornby introduced in the 1970s that feature operating mailbag pickup and drop-off mechanisms. This was fantastic to my 10-year-old self at the time, but are very toy-like by current model standards. The coach has inaccurate features such as heavy roof ribs, regular passenger coach ends and underframe equipment in the wrong places to facilitate the operating mailbag gear. It has been released in
