P2X – the energy superhero

CAN POWER-TO-X HELP SAVE THE PLANET?

WHAT IS POWER-TO-X?

Power-to-X (or P2X) means converting electricity (power) into something else (X) – such as hydrogen or ammonia – in order to store a green energy surplus.

It’s one of the biggest questions in the switch to cleaner energy generation. Very often the power from solar-cell panels or wind turbines must be transmitted to consumers immediately after being generated – or it will go to waste. So how can such surplus energy be stored, transported and used where it’s needed?

The various solutions for energy storage have become known as Power-to-X. Here’s what you need to know.

What is Power-to-X?

! The name may initially sound like a new gang of superheroes, but the ‘X’ here represents a variety of outputs, such as hydrogen (Power to Hydrogen), synthetic fuels (Power to Fuels), heat (Power to Heat), chemicals (Power to Chemicals), and other options
