IN PRAISE OF THE R-TYPE

I much enjoyed and appreciated your ‘Life of Adventure’ feature about a wellloved and much used Bentley R-Type in your September/October issue. Those of us who know these cars well are familiar with their ruggedness, dependability, superb driving characteristics and great elegance.

The comments in the ‘’’ box, including words from Ray Hillier were especially welcome and accurate. As you wrote, these cars were superbly built from the highest quality materials. I would add that the bodies were not made from inferior post-war steel, as is often inaccurately reported, but from good quality stock – as if R-R would have used anything less. The myth is
