1070 BCE KUSH BREAKS AWAY

The death of Ramesses XI ends the New Kingdom in Egypt and sees Kush regaining its independence. It centres itself around the city of Napata. While this new power base is further south than Kerma, many Egyptian customs and culture remain influential.

The pharaohs of this period claimed to be sons of the god Amun, looking to reunite his domain.

690 BCE NILE RENAISSANCE
