The Medici Bank founded 1397
Florence had long been a major banking centre when Giovanni di Bicci de’ Medici opens his own bank in the city. The Medici Bank will soon have branches throughout Europe.

Giovanni di Bicci de’ Medici takes a share in the rule of Florence in 1421 when he is appointed as one of the nine gonfalonieri, who serve as the city’s government.
