This week it’s: National Kale Day

IN America, the first Wednesday in October is National Kale Day, when there is a huge marketing push to promote this leafy vegetable. The idea is to highlight the versatility and health benefits of kale – a staple food in any healthy diet plan. It’s also riding quite high in the popularity stakes on this side of the Atlantic. After all, it’s classed by many as a ‘superfood’, it’s easy to grow, it’s productive, providing both mini salad leaves and tasty greens for cooking (as well as in smoothies), and many kales are highly decorative. It’s particularly valuable in winter, providing fresh leaves in even the coldest weather. Let’s take a look.
