Heating your home with an air source heat pump is all about low flow temperatures. Heat pumps have a low flow temperature of around 35°C-45°C. A traditional home radiator system warmed by gas boiler central heating would have flow temperatures of around 75°C.
Low temperatures require a larger surface area so underfloor heating is arguably the best solution in combination with a heat pump. But in existing homes with certain floor coverings – such as thick carpets and those with solid uninsulated floors – this is not always a feasible option. Therefore, radiators – old or new – require large surface areas to allow the heat to radiate effectively around a room.
