Finding a thriving environment

When we think of terroir, we think most often of wine and sometimes of whiskey. But cigars, particularly the tobaccos that make up a cigar, can be heavily influenced by the environments in which the tobacco is grown and fermented and in which the cigars are made.

“A broad misconception is that when someone refers to the country of origin of the cigar, that necessarily is an indication of where the tobacco came from, which, of course, is not the case,” says founder and El Vecinio Cigar Bar buyer Nicolás Jiménez. “The primary countries where cigars are coming from would be the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Honduras, Cuba, and a bit from the United States.
