Man guilty of burning family alive

IT WAS no accident. Kista Sergie Chetty deliberately burnt his family alive and was found guilty.

On Monday, the 59-year-old grass cutter was convicted on five counts of murder, six counts of attempted murder and arson.

“The court is satisfied that the State has proven its case against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt,” said Judge Carol Sibiya, who delivered the verdict in the Durban High Court.

The events leading up to the ruling date back to the early hours of November 1, 2021.
