Reclaiming the crown

IT had felt like a long wait; 11 years since the heady days of London 2012, when Britain last won team gold. Then, Britain were cresting the Valegro wave that had begun at the Rotterdam Europeans in 2011. Here, on a boiling afternoon in Riesenbeck, the British team reclaimed their throne on this continent. With Gareth Hughes (Classic Briolinca), Carl Hester (Fame) and Charlotte Dujardin (Imhotep) all laying down super scores for the team, it fell to world champions Lottie Fry and Van Olst Horses’ super stallion Glamourdale to clinch gold as the last British pair to ride the grand prix. She duly delivered the goods with a personal best score of 81.26%.

“To win team gold is so, so special as the four of us have been on so many teams together now, so to finally get the gold with these team-mates is a special feeling,” said Lottie,
