DIFFICULTY RATING

You will need:

Clay – 1600g (3 ½ lb) earthenware or stoneware, colour of choice

Plus, extra clay to make the marbles

Tools for throwing – water bowl, sponge, ribs, cutting wire
Tool to make marble positions – something small and round
Paper, pencil, ruler, protractor – to make grid template
Body stain in a colour of choice
Alumina for firing the marbles
Glaze or decorating materials of choice to fit clay type

Before you begin:

This form must be thrown on a batt because lifting it off the wheel head would be impossible. If you don’t have a quick-fit mechanism for your wheel, you will need to throw a pad to secure the batt onto – instructions on how to do this can be found in issue 65, project 1 – ‘Pasta set’ but, as a reminder, the first image in this project shows
