IT’S “PWI 500” time. Those of us of a certain age look back fondly on those early years when we’d hurry to the news-stand for that special issue—or wait for it to arrive in the mail—seeking the definitive rundown and ranking of everyone who was anyone between the ropes. Especially before the internet, when information on wrestlers was scarce, the “PWI 500” was a treasure. It’s easy to understand why it’s become an institution.
As a longtime reader, I’m thrilled to be a part of the “ 500” today. I’ve participated in four annual 500,” which came out back in 1991. It was such a different time in the business back then—and looking back on that inaugural listing is a fascinating revelation in many ways.
