ARCTANGENT 2023

THURSDAY

In just 10 years, ArcTanGent has risen in stature to become the most acclaimed celebration of experimental heavy music the UK has to offer, and the 2023 edition is another exemplary adventure. Thursday gets off to a wild start as furious tremolo riffing collides with machine-gun drums during Belgian black metallers set. It makes for an overwhelming, viciously intense 40 minutes, and it’s a shame they don’t get the turnout theythough. Weaving rich tapestries of blackgaze, post-metal and open-hearted lyricism, it’s a captivating set from a band finding new strengths to draw from.
