ON the Gold Coast, where I live, flathead fishing with lures is extremely popular. The Gold Coast Sportfishing Club’s Flathead Classic is held towards the end of September each year and attracts up to three hundred teams of two or three anglers. It is one of the biggest fishing tournaments in the country. In this competition points are allocated according to the size of the fish, and every flathead caught counts towards the total score. It is a numbers game, and if you can catch a swag of reasonable fish, you will do well.
