Cornwall’s most northerly coastal town, Bude is known for its wide, sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and excellent surf, but when it comes to food, nearby Padstow and Port Isaac have tended to steal the show. That could all be about to change, however, as Bude has quietly been undergoing something of a culinary revolution.
The place that kick-started it(), which opened in late 2017 and set a new standard for Bude’s restaurants with a changing menu featuring local, organic produce, and dishes that hadn’t previously been easy to come by in the area — such as ramen. Asian and Middle Eastern inspiration abounds, with options such as barbecued pork chop with burnt onions and green tapenade, and pollock with beetroot, hazelnuts and brown butter. It’s all dished up within simple, Scandi-style interiors in a peaceful location overlooking the river, away from the buzz of the main streets. Upstairs, meanwhile, you’ll find Bude’s only rooftop bar: Temple Up Top.
