GROANING THE NINETIES BLUES

lucked my way into my first editing/writing job at a daily newspaper in upstate New York. A year later, I asked our music reviewer if I could review a CD or two — and that’s when all began —in 2011 was a whole new level of “I can’t believe this is happening!” — but I’ll just stick to the Nineties for now.) I’ll never forget the albums I reviewed in ’94 and ’95; I still listen to them, still love them, still mentally review them… still mentally review my reviews! That said, those albums — and a lot of my other favorites from those floppy-haired days — have sort of slipped into obscurity. They’re not even mentioned by anyone (except me, of course) in this issue, which is literally an entire issue of dedicated to the Nineties. Obviously, I can’t allow this! So, on that long-winded note, here’s a quick guide to some of the albums that meant a lot to the younger, “newsie” version of me. Enjoy!
