‘Extraordinary tales from New Zealand’s past”, says the subtitle to Tom Clarke’s Our Untold Stories, and some of these 30 stories are extraordinary. The oldest is from 1796, which tells of “New Zealand’s first locally built ship”, although it obviously means the first Pākehā-built ship.
