The back of the hand is knitted first on the right mitten, followed by the palm. On the left mitten, the palm is knitted first, followed by the back of the hand. Read all chart rounds from right to left. These mittens have a thumb gusset and an inner gusset behind the thumb which ends after the 68th round (marked with a purple line).

One Shell Pattern repeat is 10 sts and 8 rnds. The number of sts remains constant.
Rnd 1: P1, yo, K3, Sl 1, K2tog, psso, K3, yo.
Rnds 2, 4, 6, and 8: P1, K9.
Rnd 3: P1, K1, yo, K2, Sl 1, K2tog, psso, K2, yo, K1.
Rnd 5: P1, K2, yo, K1, Sl 1, K2tog, psso, K1, yo, K2.
