I process what I’m seeing: daisy-shaped barnacles, a dainty dorsal fin. White tail flukes flashing turquoise in the sapphire sea. Gasping, she surfaces in a fountain of fish-stinky glitter, her blow ablaze in the setting sun. My lungs groan as the camera clicks. Now we inhale together, gulping in a moment that’s binding, fleeting. This breathlessness is something I felt the first moment I saw
