On the Carthaginian side, there were the spears and swords of the Libyan troops – usually designated with the same Greek or Latin words as for the Roman weapons in our sources. They also used swords although seemingly modelled on Greek or . The Spanish and Celtic mercenaries of the Carthaginians used their weapons too — and for the Spanish, long straight swords for the celts. Both also used spears. Both sides seem to have used light troops – archers, javelineers and slingers. Cavalry too, used thrusting spears and javelins. The latter was a favorite for the Carthaginian Numidian light cavalry.
