PLANS for a major refurbishment of Keighley station have been outlined by the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (KWVR) which shares two of the station’s four platforms with Northern. Ultimately, the station is Network Rail owned.
The multi-million pound plans cover both sides of the 130-year-old station which has been showing its age, and Network Rail has been working with contractor AMCO and consultant AECOM on the project.
Scope
At the front of the station, there will be repairs to the canopies, drainage channels as well as general masonry repairs.
Across the whole station, work will be undertaken to repair the roof and there will be large-scale repair and renewal of timber elements of the access ramps, including above platform 4, the Worth Valley’s main platform.
Elsewhere, the footbridge spanning both pairs of tracks will be refurbished, and on the KWVR side, strengthening to the canopy support structure will be carried out.
There are also plans for repairs to the eastern face of the main station, repairs to the gable end of the café to make the building stable again and extensive masonry repairs and drainage work in other locations.
The KWVR says it has been liaising and consulting with Network Rail for several years regarding this project, providing access to its platforms
